I just realised after rebuilding the door for a inventory area that I probably can cover the door with enamel panels. The width is exactly like the door.

The enamel panels have a small hole for a door knob and if I use two enamel panels towards eachother, I can probably have a door handle with one bolt through each enamel panel.

The enamel panels I have in mind are actually doors from 1980. Verner Panton designed them as kitchen doors for Skarridsø. The enamel doorhandle is from the 60:ies and it has Verner´s Geometri 1 pattern.
